Last night. 4:30am. Unable to sleep.

Mind wanders to news of Summer Glau on Dollhouse. Mind wanders again...to TSCC (because that’s where almost all my thoughts end up lately).

T.

S.

C.

C.

The.

Sarah.

Connor.

Chronicles.

What if it were The John Connor Chronicles?

I know I can’t be the only person to have thought about this. Maybe the only to have thought about it at 4:30am...

While I ultimately think TSCC was the best way to go for a TV series continuation of the ‘Terminator’ franchise...what if?

Can you imagine TJCC?

Well, I can. I don’t imagine it ever coming close to the awesomeness of TSCC, but I can imagine the possibility of the show happening (TSCC spinoff maybe?)

And since I consider myself a writer, what did I go and do next?

Yep, I wrote about it.

Remember...4:30am.  I’m not exactly thinking straight at this time. Especially considering the fact that I didn’t sleep much the night before either.

Anyway... this is what I came up with:

Type: Ficlet, Opening V.O/monologue paralleling (sort of) Sarah’s in the pilot.

Timeline: Post-SCC (if it were a spinoff), T3 ret-conned out of existence (this little fact always brings a smile to my face. Thank you, Mr. Friedman)

POV: John Connor (a few years after Sarah’s death?)

Now that that’s out of the way, here it is (the unedited first draft):

Click Me )

Yeah, even in my sleepless state, I know this is nowhere near as good as what Josh Friedman came up with for Sarah’s voiceover. It’s kind of clichéd & lame at points but I do think it could get better after a couple of edits here and there.

Yup, I muse about TSCC at random points during the day.

Colour me obsessed.

[Review] Drag Me To Hell

Sam Raimi, director of the ‘Spiderman’ and ‘The Evil Dead’ movies, makes his comeback with this year’s most anticipated and raved about horror flick ‘Drag Me To Hell’

The premise is simple; a loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself on the wrong side of a supernatural curse.  One that will literally drag her kicking and screaming to hell if she doesn’t find a way to stop it.

The delivery is rather bad; rather than jolt you like other movies of its kind with drawn out silences followed by a loud BANG, ‘Drag Me To Hell’ resorts to using a musical score that keeps the tension at a high. Now, staying away from clichés sounds like a good thing. But in this case, it’s not. The tension is quickly broken by sound effects that feel altogether rather cheap and too orchestrated, which greatly takes away from the fun of the movie.  And in the end, it effectively ends up feeling like every other horror movie made.

It does have its good points though. Most notably the tongue-in-cheek humour and cheesiness which really gives you that feeling that ‘yes, this is a classic Raimi-type movie’ which only serves to enhance the experience. Raimi also attempts to add some depth to the film through the use of themes; the most prominent being the idea of morality. Particularly focusing on Christine’s (the protagonist’s) morality – or lack thereof. Throughout the film, Christine is pulled back and forth between right and wrong as evil attempts to rip her soul into pieces. The audience is taken along on this ride as they themselves question her actions and her morality.

However, these themes and signs of Raimi’s signature storytelling seeping through aren’t enough to save this movie. While the concept sounds good on paper, the delivery isn’t quite there. It never pulls you in enough to make you feel as if the experience is money well-spent. In trying to stay away from horror movie clichés and being different from the norm, ‘Drag Me To Hell’ fails and ultimately becomes a cliché itself.

Rating: 3/5 Stars

P.S. Dear Vue Cinema,

I can haz my muneyz back pleez?

I actually have nothing to write here but since I'm new, I wanted to test this thing out. Its seems to be working out so far, even though I am slightly confused as to how LJ works.

I'd also like to take this oppurtunity to promote the following cause:

Save The Sarah Connor Chronicles
